John Scalzi explains who gets to be a geek (spoiler: anybody) and the difference between geeks and hipsters:
Many people believe geekdom is defined by a love of a thing, but I think — and my experience of geekdom bears on this thinking — that the true sign of a geek is a delight in sharing a thing. Mesmerizing. I love the philosophy behind this project. Capturing what words can’t describe, photography can’t capture, or video will overlook, but GIF can, or rather a partial animation can captured. It captured an experience in an instance. Head over to Nicolas’ site to explore more of this project.
